Autumn is fast approaching and many people always feel a little melancholy. Thoughts such as summer is over so quickly and fall is followed by what feels like a very long winter can sometimes dampen the mood of sensitive people. We should not allow this to happen and, on the contrary, celebrate the fall. It brings abundance and nature shows itself in more magnificent colors than at any other time of year.
So how do we make the most of the fall season?
After a turbulent summer, we can take a little more time for ourselves and devote more time to our skincare. The elewa natural beauty skincare range “Everything that touches your skin also touches your soul” consists of various fragrant body oils and lives up to its name. These oils pamper your skin and your soul.
Here are a few ideas for a little me time on long fall evenings:
Spread your favorite oil directly on your skin after cleansing and treat yourself to an extensive massage, preferably after a shower or bath. Oils unfold their full potential when applied to damp skin.
You can also make your own body scrubs very easily by mixing an oil with coarse-grained cane sugar or salt and using it in the shower. In combination with our body care gloves, this is a natural and effective method for a nourishing body treatment.
This allows your skin to recover and regenerate after the summer months, after long hours in the sun, on the beach, by the sea or in the mountains.
What else can we do to celebrate fall?
Spend as much time in nature as possible. Enjoy the intense colors of autumn and try to perceive it with all your senses. The harvest season is coming to an end, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and people in many parts of the world are giving thanks for the gifts of nature.
In the USA and Canada, this is celebrated extensively with Thanksgiving. Family and friends come together, eating together is a big part of the festivities and, of course, cake is a must. Thanksgiving is on November 23 this year, in Canada on October 9 and in Germany on October 1.
My recipe idea for the Indian summer maple walnut cake
- 200g brown cane sugar – if possible, use fair trade sugar Vanilla sugar or vanilla flavoring can be added if desired.
- 250g vegan yogurt – any type is suitable. Either plain or with vanilla flavor.
- approx. 120ml refined rapeseed oil – it is good for baking and is healthier than sunflower or corn oil.
- approx. 100ml maple syrup, grade A – look for a high-quality variety. Syrup from Canada or Vermont is of good quality and has an intense amber color.
- 300g spelt flour – mixed with 2 teaspoons baking powder
Worth knowing about the flour!
I use einkorn. This grain was first cultivated over 12,000 years ago. It is one of the oldest and purest grains. The gluten & carbohydrate content is lower than in other grains and it has a slightly sweet taste. It contains more protein than other grains.
Add chopped walnuts – quantity to taste – and mix all ingredients well. The dough should fall from the spoon with a heavy tear, then the consistency is right. Otherwise, you can add liquid – oil, syrup or even mineral water. I think baking always involves creativity. The batter should taste intensely of maple and vanilla, then it’s just right.
Pour the batter into a cake tin and bake at 160 to 180 degrees C. Each oven is slightly different. Every oven is slightly different. 50 minutes should be enough and the cake should have a nice brown color. If you insert a wooden stick into the cake and no dough sticks to it, it is ready. Remove, leave to cool and turn out of the tin onto a plate. It can be dusted with powdered sugar or decorated with a glaze made from maple syrup and powdered sugar.
My tip!
The walnuts can be replaced with a sugar-free granola. I love a mixture of rolled oats and chia seeds. It gives the cake a crunchy texture. Of course, this can also be used in addition to the nuts.
A cozy coffee table in the afternoon is always a good idea and autumn is particularly suitable. Apples, plums, pears or pumpkin make wonderful cakes for an autumn coffee party and sometimes it is still warm and sunny enough to enjoy them in the garden or on the balcony.
My recipe idea for the pear crumble cake Autumn love
Knead a dough from 120g margarine, 100g brown cane sugar, approx. 100ml mineral water, 250g spelt flour and 2 teaspoons baking powder. If you like, you can add vanilla sugar or flavoring. The dough should not be too sticky. If this is the case, it can be chilled for a few minutes, after which it will be easier to work with. Now place in a greased baking tin and top generously with finely chopped pears.
Knead a crumble from 2 parts flour, 1 part margarine and 1 part sugar and spread over the pears. You can also add walnuts or granola to the crumble for this recipe. Instead of pears, you can also use other autumnal fruit. Apples, plums, pumpkin or a mixture of different varieties. The cake should be baked for approx. 45 minutes at 190 degrees C.
I wish you all a wonderful and colorful autumn season!
