Fear is a strong feeling and we all know it. Everyone is afraid from time to time. There are different types of fear. There is fear of a big dog, of insects, of snakes. You can do something about that. There are seminars where you can learn how to deal with this fear and gradually lose it. There is a healthy fear. The fear of walking home alone in the dark, for example. This fear makes us alert so that we can recognize dangers in good time and avoid them. It is our warning system. There is the fear that suddenly appears. It overwhelms us and paralyzes us. Life comes to a standstill. Panic. Heart racing, shortness of breath, sweating, terrible fear. You lose the ground beneath your feet. Why?
There are many causes and it can affect anyone. If this anxiety becomes unbearable, you need medical help. You usually can’t cope on your own. No one should be afraid to seek it. However, once you have identified the cause of such panic attacks, the trigger, there are small aids that you can also give yourself.
Breathing exercises can be one such help. Here are two breathing exercises from the ELEWA companion.
BREATHING EXERCISE THAT CALMS THE MIND AND BRINGS CLARITY
We assume a comfortable sitting position. We close the left side of our nose with the ring finger of our right hand.
The index finger and middle finger are placed between the eyebrows. Breathe deeply through the right nostril and count to four.
Then close the right nostril with the thumb of your right hand. Both nostrils are closed. Count to four.
Now open the left nostril, exhale and count to four.
When you have exhaled completely, count to four.
We leave the right nostril closed and breathe in through the left nostril, counting to four.
We close the left nostril, both nostrils are closed, we count to four. Now open the right nostril, breathe out and count to four.
Do this exercise for five minutes. It is not difficult, has a relaxing, calming effect and helps to create a positive attitude.
BREATHING EXERCISE THAT BRINGS BALANCE
Sit in a comfortable position. Place your hands on your knees with your palms facing upwards. Breathe in deeply. Exhale while tensing the abdomen and drawing the navel in towards the spine. You can place your right hand on your navel to check. Relax. Breathe in again automatically.
You can repeat this exercise twenty times and then sit still for a while with your eyes closed and concentrate on your inner self.
Breathing exercises are very effective in many ways. It is essential that they are carried out correctly. However, they are not a panacea and do not replace medical treatment for illnesses. They are intended to increase awareness, to bring and maintain harmony between body, mind and soul and to calm the body through energy.
It doesn’t always have to be the great fear that dominates us to integrate breathing exercises into our lives. You can start the day with it, you can take a little time out in between to recharge your batteries and regenerate. Right now, we are living through a time characterized by uncertainties and fears. We need balance, calm and clarity so that we don’t lose sight of the big picture.
Can breathing exercises give us this?
I think you have to put it a little differently. Breathing exercises can take away some of the restlessness, the chaos in our heads, the fear. So we are on the right track. For better relaxation and well-being, we recommend our Inner Balance oil with a soothing fragrance.
You can spread a few drops in the palms of your hands, close your eyes and breathe in. The oil nourishes and refreshes. The fragrance is long-lasting.
